CAR CONNECTIVITY CONSORTIUM®

The Car Connectivity Consortium® (CCC) is an organization driving global technologies for smartphone-centric car connectivity solutions. The organization has developed MirrorLink®, an open standard for car-smartphone connectivity, in collaboration with cross-industry stakeholders including Car OEM, Tier-I suppliers, Phone Manufacturers, and App Developers, etc. CCC has also expanded its portfolio of technologies to include two very exciting projects: “Digital Key,” where smartphones are used to gain access to the car, and “Car Data,” which builds ecosystems for services such as usage-based insurance, diagnostic, driver health/behavior monitoring, ride hailing and sharing etc. CCC members include a majority of the world’s auto and smartphone manufacturers, along with a who’s who of aftermarket consumer electronics vendors.

ACTIVE CCC PROJECTS

DIGITAL KEY

Car Connectivity Consortium (CCC) is developing open standard for use of smart devices as digital keys for automotive. The solution will be car and smart device agnostic. It will enable consumer to conveniently lock/unlock the vehicle and start the engine along with other interesting features. The solution will also enable provisioning and sharing of keys with properties associated with them. The Digital Key specification will be built on existing standard technologies such as Global Platform, GSMA, Bluetooth, and NFC. CCC is also collaborating with other standardization organizations to create a lean and efficient solution. The first phase of Digital Key specification is targeted for completion by the end of 2017

The Car Connectivity Consortium (CCC) is an organization driving global technologies for smartphone-centric car connectivity solutions. The organization is dedicated to cross-industry collaboration in developing MirrorLink®, an open standard for car-smartphone connectivity. CCC members include a majority of the world’s auto and smartphone manufacturers, along with a who’s who of aftermarket consumer electronics vendors.

MirrorLink is an innovation platform that comprehensively manages underlying communications between the device and the car, freeing app developers to create an entirely new class of driver-aware apps. The standard is designed for maximum interoperability between a wide range of smartphones and cars and allows all players in the ecosystem to have an equal stake in the booming connected-car marketplace.

MANUFACTURERS & PARTNERS

Alliance for innovation

Distributing MirrorLink compliant devices & apps

Consumers now rely on smartphone apps for almost every aspect of their daily lives. But apps are typically not designed for use while driving. The alternative platform for running applications in cars is the in-vehicle infotainment system (IVI) or head unit. However, this market is highly fragmented: each manufacturer offers its own proprietary, closed solution, typically with only a handful of pre-installed apps.

MirrorLink® is designed to provide the solution to these challenges. It is an open interoperability standard that enables apps on any compliant smartphone to work with any compliant IVI, regardless of operating system or hardware manufacturer. MirrorLink also ensures that apps used while driving conform to industry guidelines for minimizing driver distraction.

THE DEVELOPER'S CHOICE

The next frontier for Apps, the Connected Car

Developers are already taking advantage of MirrorLink’s technology and market adoption to bring innovative driver-aware applications to consumers. Developers can publish once to reach the dashboards of multiple automakers, representing the broadest possible market.

MIRRORLINK®

MirrorLink® is an open standard for car-smartphone connectivity which allows users stay connected to their smartphone apps while driving. Drivers interact with their compliant smartphone apps via any compliant in-vehicle infotainment system (IVI). The smartphone applications project their user interface (UI) to the IVI display. Audio apps can also stream and play through the car’s speakers. MirrorLink enables interoperability between a wide range of smartphones and cars.  It also allows all players in the ecosystem to have an equal stake in the booming connected-car marketplace. MirrorLink® is available today in millions of cars, from 100s of millions of mobile devices, powering dozens of applications.

CAR DATA

The Car Data project in intended to connect consumers to service providers to offer them tailored vehicular services enhanced by vehicle data. The target use cases include usage based insurance, real-time road condition monitoring, integrated vehicle maintenance, car ride share or hailing services, and more. The Car Data solution will be car, smart device and service agnostic. The solution will facilitate the exchange of vehicle data and will give control over the data to involved stakeholders. CCC is intended to define an authentication and authorization service platform that will enable data provider to offer car data through any market place, while preventing uncontrolled dissemination and use, without explicit consent. The Car Data project is currently in the requirements and use case phase.
